Dr. Corin Sprod

Dr. Corin Sprod
Born in Tasmania I moved to Perth in 2010 after finishing my medical degree. Since then I have made Perth my home for the last 13 years and, apart from the time overseas mentioned below, completed all my hospital and post hospital training in WA. I have gained wide experience across a variety of specialities and completed a Certificate in Women’s Health, whilst working at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
I have always been passionate about travel and spent time in the UK obtaining a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene through the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. I used the skills gained there to spend 9 months in Papua New Guinea, conducting a research project to improve the outcomes of children with severe infections.
I am happily married and enjoy a wide variety of hobbies including travel, music, hiking, squash and basketball.
I moved from hospital based work to general practice in 2016 and have loved every minute of it. I enjoy all aspects of medicine and have made a deliberate effort to not narrow my scope of practice to one particular area.

Dr. Margriet Breytenbach
I am South African born, grew up in rural WA, and am excited to be returning with my husband after a few years spent working and studying in South Australia. We are extremely excited to be back in sunny Perth, enjoying the beautiful beaches, and being closer to our families!
Following an undergraduate Bachelor of Science, working in the Torres Strait, and 6 months backpacking, I completed my post graduate medical degree at The University of Western Australia in 2018. I have since trained and worked at the East Metropolitan Health Service in Western Australia and Southern Adelaide Local Health Network in South Australia. Throughout my GP training I have worked in both metropolitan and rural areas.
I feel very privileged to work in the field of General Practice, where I can provide cradle to grave care, be an advocate for my patients and walk alongside them through the ebbs and flows of life. I have varied interests including antenatal and postnatal care and have completed the Sydney Child Health program. I also enjoy sexual health, mental health and geriatrics.
Outside of work I enjoy cooking, travelling and the outdoors, and you’ll often find me taking part in fun runs and open water swimming events!
I am very much looking forward to becoming part of the team at Rokeby GP, who I have heard such great things about, and most importantly you, the patients, who give us purpose each day.

Originally from Sydney, I studied medicine at The University of Sydney, graduating in 2002 with Honours. I spent the next 10 years in Melbourne, completing my hospital and GP training, including one year at The Royal Children’s Hospital. During this time, I obtained a Master of Public Health. Since 2013, I have been working in Perth, and enjoying the wonderful sunshine with my husband and children.

I enjoy the breadth of general practice, and the privilege of supporting people through their health journey. I am interested in all areas of general practice with a particular interest in paediatrics, women’s health and mental health (with a focus on youth mental health).

My family and golden retriever enjoy spending time at the beach, hiking, exploring new cafes, and travelling around Western Australia.

I’m very excited to be returning to WA and joining the Rokeby GP team. I grew up in Albany and moved to Perth to study at UWA, graduating in 2000. I completed my GP training in Perth and started my career here after a couple of years working in the UK and travelling.

I then decided to go on a 1 year adventure to Melbourne, which turned into 14. Now I get to see my husband and daughters enjoy living in this very special part of the world. I know they’re in for a treat. I’m proud to work in a general practice team and help people in a very meaningful way across their life span. I thoroughly enjoy the variety in general practice and the detective work that’s often involved.

Preventative health, chronic disease management, contraception, pregnancy and postnatal care, menopause and paediatrics are areas I’m particularly interested in. Having said that, what I really enjoy is getting to know people at any stage in their life and collaborating with them to optimise their health and wellbeing. I consider this a tremendous privilege. I enjoy the care of LGBTQIA+ patients and welcome all to my practice. Also, I am able to prescribe gender affirming medications for patients under the shared care of an appropriate specialist, who initiates the treatment.

Since I was a child, I always wanted to be a doctor. Born and raised in Perth, I was lucky to have the opportunities that allowed me to study my MD at the University of Western Australia, finishing with Honours and a UWA Dean’s Letter of Commendation.

I subsequently worked at Fiona Stanley Hospital in various departments including surgical, medical, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatology and psychiatry.

I enjoy all aspects of general practice, especially working in skin cancer prevention/management (having a Professional Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine), pregnancy planning/antenatal care, chronic disease management and weight management. I am a certified AMA Youth Friendly Doctor and have received an AMA award for Best Public Health Campaign in 2018 for my research into the effects of peer-based educational sessions on adolescent mental health literacy.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my big family (having 4 sisters and many nieces and nephews) and wonderful husband. We both love spending time surfing, keeping fit at the gym, listening to music and travelling. I love Perth and think we are so lucky to be living in one of the best cities in the world.

I understand the trust people put in their doctors to provide excellent, empathic care and I honour that trust by providing holistic, patient-centred care, and by continuing to stay up to date with new research. I am excited to be joining the team at Rokeby GP and feel privileged to be able to provide comprehensive care to families over their lifespan.

I completed my undergraduate degree at UWA before studying medicine at Notre Dame Fremantle. As a junior doctor I worked at Fiona Stanley, Rockingham and Fremantle hospitals. Here I completed terms in surgery, medicine, emergency medicine, paediatrics and neonates prior to starting GP training. I also obtained a Diploma in Child Health and Certificate of Sexual and Reproductive Health. I completed my fellowship of the RACGP in early 2021 and am looking forward to building long term patient relationships at Rokeby GP.

I enjoy all areas of general practice, specifically paediatrics and women’s and sexual health. I endeavour to work with patients to understand their problems and explain the treatment options available, which empowers the patient to make the most informed decision for themselves. I feel privileged to treat patients and families throughout all stages of their lives.

Dr. Janice Gomes

I am Melbourne born and raised and I recently moved to Perth with my husband and two young children. We spent the last five years living in Ireland to be closer to my husband’s family and though we absolutely loved it there, it was time to chase the sunshine!

I graduated from Monash University (Melbourne) in 2003 and subsequently worked at Monash Medical Centre gaining experience in a variety of medical and surgical disciplines. I then took a year off to backpack through Asia, Europe and South America. I commenced General Practice in 2008 and completed my fellowship in 2011. I have worked as a GP in Melbourne, Sydney and most recently in Dublin, which was a fantastic experience.
I love the breadth of General Practice and the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives, especially at times of need. I really enjoy getting to know my patients and educating them about their health so that they can make informed choices. I believe the doctor-patient relationship should be a collaborative interaction that allows for open, honest and empathic discussion.
My areas of interest include Women’s Health (contraception, sexual health, antenatal and postnatal medicine). I very much enjoy Gastroenterology (including reflux disease, irritable bowel issues, inflammatory bowel disease). General Practice also allows me the privilege of looking after patients’ Mental Health and it is an area of medicine I find very rewarding.
Outside of work, it’s all about spending time with my family, trying to keep fit and travel (whenever we can again)! I love spending time outdoors especially at the beach and I have recently started sand running, taking advantage of Perth’s stunning beaches! I feel incredibly lucky to be back home and to be settling down in such a beautiful city. I’m delighted to be part of the excellent and caring team at Rokeby GP and I look forward to meeting you.

Not currently taking new patients.

I had the good fortune to be born and raised locally, and genuinely love the people and places that make Perth home.

Originally practicing as a Physiotherapist and Pilates instructor, I subsequently lived and worked in London for four years. This seminal period allowed me to gain professional experience, travel extensively, and meet my husband. I returned to Perth to study medicine at UWA.

Prior to my experience as a GP, I worked as a junior doctor at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and tutored medical students at UWA, taking short breaks for the arrival of our two gorgeous children. I then worked for several years in the Emergency Department at Princess Margaret Hospital, while completing my Diploma in Child Health. I have also undertaken additional training in skin medicine through the Skin Cancer College Australasia.

One of the things I love most about General Practice is treating the whole person, not just their body parts or illnesses. I like to get to know my patients as people, to understand what their priorities are, and to help them achieve these. It is a great privilege to provide care to patients from preconception right through to palliative care.

In addition to spending time at the beach and park with my family, I enjoy yoga and swimming. I managed not to drown completing the “Port to Pub” with a team of GP friends this year. I love reading, travel, cooking, and I volunteer at our local primary school.

I’m really excited to be joining the expert team at Rokeby GP, and getting to know the patients who entrust us with their care.

Born and raised in Perth, I am keen to take advantage of what our wonderful environment has to offer, and as such, enjoy sailing, cycling, and hiking. It is therefore no surprise I appreciate the importance of keeping active to remain healthy, and believe that preventative medicine is the best medicine.

I completed my medical studies at the University of Western Australia. Since then I have enjoyed a range of experiences; I initially worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, before relocating to the UK with my husband Adam, a sports Physiotherapist, where I worked in a number of roles.

Since returning to Australia we have had three wonderful children. We love travelling as a family – especially when it involves adventures off the beaten track.

General practice provides a perfect balance with our busy family life, and I love the variety that general practice gives me. I enjoyed working as a GP in Broome, where I gained valuable experience in indigenous health; and having a young family, I especially enjoy women’s and children’s health. To further this special interest, I completed a Diploma of Child Health at Princess Margaret Hospital in 2006.

I believe that the relationship between a doctor and a patient contributes to the quality of care. I enjoy developing meaningful doctor-patient relationships. It is a privilege as a GP to get to know entire families as well as individual patients.

I am proud to work at Rokeby GP, a practice which encourages compassion, care, and ongoing education to promote the best possible health experience.

Dr. Patrick Garratt

Dr. Patrick Garratt

Hi, I’m Patrick. I am very fortunate to be the father of three beautiful young daughters and husband to a lovely wife. My family and I are fervent travelers – having caught a very serious strain of the travel bug many years ago – and try as often as we can to travel the world in search of new surrounds.

In between work and family I aim to keep fit by turning out for Wembley Downs “Masters” soccer team. I am a long frustrated but optimistic follower of the Dockers, and a very happy supporter of the English cricket team.

I enjoy challenging myself and setting myself new targets each year. These generally involve climbing increasingly bigger mountains (literally)! As such, I’ve had wonderful experiences trekking for pleasure, as well as working as an expedition doctor on a number of trips to Nepal and Europe.

I moved away from my home in London to study Medicine at the University of Nottingham. After graduating I began travelling and working throughout the world, undertaking work in a variety of specialties, including paediatrics, psychiatry, and cardiology.

After undertaking further work and studies in Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, I finally “found” general practice. After completing my Fellowship in General Practice, I was inspired to undertake further education at the University of Bristol where I completed a post graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Health Professionals.

My extra training allowed me to return to Perth and combine my work as a GP with teaching the general practice component of medicine at the University of Western Australia. In turn, I moved on to commence general practice teaching to registrars at a post graduate level.

I have recently become very interested in the latest research relating to the treatment of diabetes and obesity, and this has led me to study further the importance and benefits of nutrition. This interest has involved travel to the UK where I have met a number of important researchers, including Dr. Michael Mosely. In turn he has been very supportive in helping me set up a website for people with diabetes (The Fast 800), and a program for visceral fat loss.

I feel very fortunate that I am able to work in a position where I can make a real difference in people’s lives. I continually strive to work with patients to optimise both their physical and mental health by practicing the highest quality medicine, and above all, showing care. This means, as a GP, every patient has to be listened to and every issue needs to be taken in to account.

It is a real pleasure to work with a team that exact themselves to similar high standards and beliefs, and who wish to provide the very highest quality of care to its patients. I look forward to providing the highest standard of general practice care possible to you and your family.

Dr. Michael Allen

Dr. Michael Allen

I joined Rokeby GP due to the genuine pursuit of excellence and compassion in general practice medicine that the team at Rokeby GP provides. This approach is consistent with my own and I happily pursue this goal amongst the wealth of experience that exists at Rokeby.
My enjoyment of general practice lies in the variety of presentations we see as GP’s and the diagnostic challenges that come with this field of medicine. I have subspecialty interest in musculoskeletal medicine with over 25 years experience providing care for acute and chronic sports and spinal injuries; including recreational and elite sports and workplace areas. Prior to studying medicine, I practiced as a physiotherapist for 10 years, completing a post graduate diploma in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and gaining extensive hands on experience in guiding recovery from sports and spinal injuries.

As a natural extension of my general practice training I have enjoyed a number of years in emergency medicine and acute care settings. I continue to enjoy and pursue this area at Rokeby. I have completed additional training in skin cancer medicine including a “Diploma in Dermoscopy”, “Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine” and “Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine” allowing me to more accurately diagnose and manage concerning skin lesions and perform mole excisions. During my General Practice training I completed a “Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology ( DRANZCOG)” and I provide antenatal care at Rokeby.

Outside of the consulting suite I enjoy a full and happy family life and am heavily involved as a volunteer in junior sport coaching and of course providing first aid. We have a love for the outdoors and are ever exploring. Life balance and happiness is important to me and is an objective I like to help my patients move towards as they overcome both the short and long-term challenges of physical and mental health issues.

I was born and raised in Ireland on a strawberry farm. I live with my husband and three gorgeous sons and our latest arrival “Tuscar” our labradoodle. My three boys keep me on my toes and provide much fun and frustration – often simultaneously! My husband keeps me sane and family life is top priority for us. We love to camp, cycle and generally play cricket/footy all the time. We try to get back to Ireland on a yearly basis to catch up with family and friends and show the boys the other side of the world!

We moved to Perth initially in 2008 for two years and loved it so much we returned in 2013. I have worked in Alexander Heights Family Practice during my time in Perth.

I graduated from medical school in Dublin in 1998 and trained as a GP in the UK. While working in both rural and city centre practices I completed my training and formal exams. I obtained post graduate qualifications in family planning, obstetrics and gynaecology and medicine for the elderly. I am trained in all aspects of contraceptive health.

I am passionate about aged care medicine including end of life care. I work across two aged care facilities weekly as a GP. I am also interested in women’s health, chronic disease, child health and preventive medicine.

It is a privilege to work in general practice. I value and respect the trust patients place in us and feel obligated to provide the best quality medicine I can to honour that trust.

I am very proud to be a member of a high performing and dynamic general practice and look forward to meeting you and your family at Rokeby GP.

Currently on maternity leave.

I was born and raised in Perth and love this beautiful place we live. I completed my General practice specialist training (FRACGP) across a number of practices in the Northern suburbs of Perth. I am looking forward to joining the excellent team at Rokeby GP in 2023.

When not at work you’ll find me enjoying time with my young family either at the beach or a local park. I also love spending time down in the South West if given a chance!

I love that General Practice gives me the opportunity to care for the people and families of Perth throughout their lives. We are very privileged as GPs to be able to experience and assist our patients with all the highs and lows that life throws at them. I take this privilege and trust very seriously and will do my best to support my patients through the challenges they face.

I completed an undergraduate degree in Biomedical science followed by postgraduate Medicine at the University of Western Australia. Following my graduation in 2015, I completed an internship at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and then went on to work at Joondalup Health Campus and King Edward Memorial Hospital. I have gained valuable experience in a number of fields of medicine. I am passionate about pregnancy and postnatal care as well as women’s health, child health and dermatology.

I have completed my Diploma of Child Health in paediatric medicine. I am also competent in Implanon insertion/removal and minor skin procedures.

I live with my husband and our three babies; one furry cavoodle and two less furry but albeit messier food throwing toddlers. One does clean up after the others and not surprisingly they have become the best of friends. I love cooking and get great pleasure in preparing meals for my loved ones. I have discovered it is never too late to pick up a sport and now thoroughly enjoy playing tennis.

I graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2010 and obtained my fellowship in general practice in 2016. I enjoy the scope that general practice offers, and that it allows for meaningful therapeutic relationships to develop over time. I have particular interests in chronic disease management, as well as in the areas of women’s health and paediatrics, whereby I have completed a Diploma in Child Health.

From a young age, I was always drawn to teaching and that has continued with me. I have previously enjoyed a clinical tutor role at the University of Western Australia, and continue to assist with GP registrar training workshops through WAGPET as well as in examining future GPs in their RACGP fellowship exams. The word doctor, is originally derived from a latin verb that means ‘to teach’. I wholeheartedly believe that empowering you with an understanding of what is happening to your body and mind is the first step towards achieving better health. After taking a short break from general practice to spend time with my young family, I am now looking forward to providing a high level of care to you and your family at Rokeby GP.

I enjoy exploring local areas, and venturing out on as many day trips as possible with my husband. If I find myself at home on weekends, slow cooking is a luxury/hobby I like to indulge in.

I graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2001, and obtained a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2004. I received my Fellowship of General Practice with the RACGP in 2005.

I have been working as a doctor for the past twenty years and have spent the first ten of these years working in several locations across Australia. I have worked as a general practitioner in the Adelaide Hills – where I also practiced Rural Obstetrics – as well as the Pilbara and rural Queensland. I moved to Perth from the beautiful township of Broome.

I really enjoy working in general practice and I’m happy to provide consultations for a variety of health issues, such as child health, women’s health, chronic health problems, mental health, sporting or musculoskeletal Injuries, travel medicine, and workers’ compensation. The broad scope and variety is what make general practice so unique and exciting.

I enjoy providing my patients with high-quality, patient-focused, educational discussions in regular, everyday language – I believe this helps patients develop a better understanding of their health issues and treatment options. I want my patients to understand their health issues so they may manage their health better and make informed health choices.

Dr. Cathryn Higgins

Not currently taking new patients.

My name is Cathryn. I am a wife and mother to three (loud) children who keep me simultaneously entertained, exhausted, and in complete wonderment at their capacity to love their parents – despite the mistakes we make along the way. I am now a reasonably proficient scorer of cricket and basketball, two skills which I had never anticipated needing prior to having children. I believe that chocolate is one of the essential food groups (in moderation, of course).

I am a graduate of the University of Western Australia, and spent my early years at Royal Perth Hospital gaining invaluable experience. After travelling and working in Adelaide and the UK, I returned home to Perth to complete my GP training.

Over time, I have developed special interests in women’s health, paediatrics, and mental health, but I enjoy most fields within the wide spectrum of general practice. I completed a Diploma of Child Health at Princess Margaret Hospital (always helpful when one has children of one’s own), and I continue to enjoy attending lectures on a wide range of topics to ensure my knowledge base is current with best-practice standards. Ongoing education is an essential part of General Practice and an area which I greatly enjoy.

I spent nine years in the northern suburbs practicing as a GP, which was a wonderful experience. However, I embrace the opportunity to work at Rokeby GP, and to be involved with and within the Subiaco community

It is a great privilege and an absolute pleasure to work in general practice. Developing long-term relationships with my patients is a source of great joy to me, hence I am very pleased to be joining a practice that emphasises community and encourages and supports excellence. I look forward to meeting you, and being involved with your health and well-being at Rokeby GP.

I am married to a not so intense Intensive Care Physician, and I am the proud mother of two children. When I’m not at work, my interests include reading, travelling, and learning about all things to do with motherhood, wifedom, and life’s pleasures.

My Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees were completed at the University of Western Australia in 1996. Following this, I was accepted into the General Practice training program and successfully gained my fellowship in 1999.

I obtained valuable experience in Rural General Practice as a registrar in Moora, and will always be remembered as the only doctor to survive both Moora floods of 1998 – quite a feat as the last flood there was thirty years prior to my visit!

In paediatrics, I have a post graduate degree in child health (Diploma in Child Health – Princess Margaret Hospital), and in women’s health. I am qualified in counselling and management of contraceptive issues (which include insertion and removal of contraceptive implants). Furthermore, I am also accredited as a Youth Friendly Doctor from the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

I am happy to be a part of Subiaco and its surrounding communities through my work at Rokeby GP. I look forward to welcoming you to our practice and I hope to provide friendly and professional healthcare to you and your family.

I am happily married with two young children. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and gardening.

I was born in Subiaco and grew up on my family farm at New Norcia. I attended boarding school in Perth before completing my medical degree at the University of Western Australia.

After spending my intern year at Fremantle Hospital, I was accepted by the Rural General Practice training program, achieving skills gained in anaesthetics, obstetrics, and paediatrics – in addition to general practice.

My part time work as a GP is well suited to family life. I have been working as a general practitioner since 1999 and continue to be passionate about my chosen career. I really enjoy providing ongoing medical care to individuals and families, and love the variety of the consultations that I have in any one working day.

I have worked in rural areas, including Kalgoorlie, Albany, Mount Barker and Brookton, but more recently have been working in the northern suburbs of Perth – at the same surgery since 2003.

I worked part time for the Royal Flying Doctors Service for eight years, visiting several country towns and providing a regular visiting female GP service to those communities. I really enjoyed this work but cannot say that I miss travelling in a small aircraft during rough weather, and the early morning starts from Jandakot!

I am really enjoying my time at Rokeby GP, and being part of a practice that truly seeks to look after its patients.

My interests are in diagnostic medicine for people of all ages and I am especially passionate about preventive health and the promotion of high-level wellness with physical and emotional resilience.

I have been a family physician/general practitioner for over 30 years. After graduation from UWA I worked as a resident medical officer at Royal Perth Hospital and commenced physician training.

My studies took me to Leeds and Cambridge in the UK in 1983 and 1984 – and I met my wife Claire in Cambridge.

We have four children – Sophie, Gemma, twins Oscar and Henry and three grandchildren Naia, Jett, and Julius.

My hobbies include handymangardener (at home in Perth and on our small farm in south-west France), playing guitar and raising money for the most inspiring global aid and development organization, The Hunger Project. I also co-lead an online course in transactional competence with a global business education company, Influence Ecology.

I love assisting people of all ages to live life to the full. I love the variety of general practice and I cherish the opportunity to make a difference for people – to build exceptional wellbeing, or assist through the difficult periods of illness or suffering.

Dr. Christina Baker

Dr. Christina Baker

I was born and raised in New Zealand before my family and I moved to Perth in 2004 – temporarily, we initially mused… Now seven years later we have been well and truly seduced by the beautiful surroundings and great lifestyle, and are clearly here for the duration!

I very much enjoy spending time with my two teenage children. I am a keen runner and tennis player, and can frequently be seen pounding the streets – or pounding a tennis ball to within an inch of its life. Recently I have become interested in artisan bread baking, mostly with success – although I am also very capable of turning out the classic brick!

I completed my initial medical training in New Zealand, gaining a range of experiences throughout numerous New Zealand hospitals. After our arrival in Perth, I spent time working in local hospital emergency departments. I completed my formal Australian General Practice Fellowship and have been working in general practice since.

I come from a strong education and teaching background, and one of my key principles in medical practice is to pass on as much information as possible to patients – to help each person understand their conditions and treatment options. I value the opportunity to be involved with people of all ages and from all walks of life, and I believe that with knowledge and understanding we can work together to attain the best possible health.

General practice is a wonderful and varied job and I am thrilled to be part of Rokeby GP.

I am passionate about general practice and believe excellence should be continually strived for by GP’s. I am incredibly fortunate to work with such a wonderful team of fellow doctors, nurses and reception staff, and I am very proud to be working in a practice where excellence is the core theme.

Outside of medicine I am a happily married man, with a wonderful wife, and proud father to a son and two daughters. My greatest pleasures are travelling, camping with my family, cycling, rock concerts, cooking, golf, and wine tasting with close friends. I regularly attend Dockers games and look forward (desperately) to their eventual success.

My childhood was spent on my parent’s farm in Kojonup. I went to boarding school in Perth and from there went straight into medical school at UWA. I worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for three years, and commenced work as a GP in 1995 – and rapidly discovered this was the job I loved. I spent 14 years working at the same practice in Manning/Como, and was sad to leave the lovely community behind when I moved to establish Rokeby GP in 2011 – but I was very happy that many patients accompanied me on the journey.

After 18 years as a GP I remain highly interested in all areas of general practice. I have formed special interests in depression and anxiety, preventative medicine (in the middle-aged), women’s health, skin cancer, joint medicine, and child health.

I believe there is an enormous opportunity in patients over 40 years old to prevent illness, especially heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
